You're No Brother

You're No Brother
A night of roaring cheers, blazing stage lights, and bass thundering through every chest. What happens when a song is born from insults and old drama?

Follow Sayap Besi, Amirul, Husin, and Johar in Kau Bukan Brader, a short story of rock, laughter, and the courage to stand firm when the world points fingers.

That night, they gave their own answer.

Dewan Sukahati Akulah was packed. Even the plastic chairs shook when the crowd rose to their feet. Everyone was waiting for the band the whole village had been talking about.

Sayap Besi.

Amirul, the bassist who was also taking over as vocalist that night, drew a long breath.

Husin, the drummer, grinned as he tapped his sticks against the table.

“Mirul, relax. You can't go hoarse tonight like you did singing in front of Makcik Rosmah.”

Amirul laughed.

“My voice was hoarse because you fed me spicy crackers before we went onstage.”

Johar, the lead guitarist, was busy tuning his guitar.

“If you two want to make noise, do it after the show. Put on your rock faces first.”

The three of them nodded.

This was no ordinary night.

Their new song, Kau Bukan Brader, was making its debut.

The song existed because Man Poyo, the singer from their old band, had a habit of taking shots at Amirul and Husin after they left.

One legendary line kept appearing in Man Poyo's status updates.

“You're no brother.”

And almost every time, there was one more word.

Poodah.

The stage lights came alive.

The crowd roared.

Amirul gripped the microphone.

“Those who chose to walk away… as though forgetting the struggle we once built together.”

The crowd fell silent.

Amirul continued.

“You're no brother… gone like a shadow running without a trace.”

Johar's guitar came in.

Husin followed on the drums.

Slowly, the song gathered force.

In the middle of the performance, Amirul glanced at Husin.

Husin grinned back.

“Mirul, this is seriously poodah. We have to hold it together tonight.”

Amirul gave a quiet laugh.

“Don't worry. I've got the bass, and my voice is still steady.”

The chorus hit.

The crowd shouted along.

“You're no brother… those were the words you threw at us.”

Husin smiled and gave Amirul a signal.

“Every time that line about turning away comes up, poodah goes with it. It's a denial. Like saying, eh, that's not even true.”

Johar kept playing, chuckling under his breath.

Amirul thought to himself.

“They called us traitors. But tonight, we're answering live. No drama. No long speeches. Just enough poodah for flavour.”

The song moved into the bridge.

Amirul paused and looked out at the crowd.

“If you think we weren't loyal, you're wrong. We didn't leave because we hated anyone. We left because we were trying to escape the stress.”

The crowd burst into laughter.

Husin tapped the drums softly.

“We weren't running from loyalty. We were running from drama. The poodah just came along for the ride.”

Johar launched into a guitar solo with everything he had.

Then, without missing a beat, he called out:

“One more spicy status update and I'm blocking you.”

The crowd laughed again.

Amirul returned to the microphone, his voice calm but sharp.

“This song is for everyone who's ever been mocked and still stood their ground.”

The final chorus exploded.

“You're no brother… but we know who the loyal ones really are.”

The lights went out.

The hall erupted.

Amirul looked at Husin and Johar.

“Do you think he got the message?”

Husin laughed.

“No chance. Tomorrow he'll post another status. Guaranteed there'll be a poodah at the end.”

Johar joined in.

“Doesn't matter. We answered him live. That hits harder.”

The three of them laughed.

That night, Amirul understood one thing.

Rock isn't just about being loud.

Rock is having the courage to speak.

Even if someone once called them traitors and threw in a poodah for good measure, they were still standing.

Because sometimes the best answer isn't another long status update.

You step onto the stage.

Play the song.

And if necessary…

Add just enough poodah for flavour.
